Очередная, 23-я церемония вручения "Премий Уильяма Хэнди" состоялась 23 мая в Мемфисе. Её учредитель некоммерческая организация "Фонд Блюза" (The Blues Foundation).

В списке претендентов на ежегодную премию в различных категориях выделялись по количеству выдвижений певица и пианистка Марция Болл (5), а также Айк Тёрнер, Ким Вилсон и Кид Рамос - по 4 номинации.

Однако жюри, а также члены Фонда, принимающие участие в голосовании, в том числе и через Интернет, определили другого фаворита - Джоржа "Бадди" Гая. Он получил премию в трех номинациях, по две досталось "Литтл" Милтону Кемпбеллу, Чарли Мазелвайту и Ар Эл Бёнсайду. Ниже приводится полный список лауреатов.
